Day 1 A night in Dar es Salaam

You'll be driven from the airport to the Southern Sun Dar es Salaam Hotel. The minute you enter the reception area, you'll be aware of the change in atmosphere. Here, where old-world charm, gorgeous surroundings, wide smiles and a warm welcome combine with modern amenities and services, you'll be made to feel right at home. Venture out to see the city's major landmarks and attractions such as the botanical gardens, all of which are conveniently close by, or organise a trip into the game-rich interior safe in the knowledge that there's a peaceful place to rest your head when you return. Explore the sights, sounds and aromas of this historical port then, after dinner, take a stroll down to the beachfront. Love a safari? Arrange an expedition to any of the country's game-rich wildlife reserves with the on-site tour operator.

Day 2-4 Safari in Selous Game Reserve

You'll be transferred to Azura Selous. Recently taken over by ultra-luxury brand Azura, the 12 rooms look as if they have tumbled (perfectly) off the pages of Italian Vogue and private plunge pools rub shoulders with crisp white sun loungers and plump cushions. Super swanky it may be, but stuffy it’s certainly not and the atmosphere is totally relaxed with not an upturned nose in sight. The game viewing and activities are also fantastic and the location, tucked away in the north-west of the photographic zone of the reserve, means there’s hardly another soul in sight. The best kind of safari. Game drives are conducted in custom-made 4 x 4s and are made for exploring the wildest corners of the Selous. Other activities include walking safaris (to really keep your senses alive) and, when the water level is up, fishing and boating on the Ruaha River. There’s also a ‘mobile spa’ for massages in your room – bliss.

Day 5-8 Stay at a wilderness beach retreat like no other

You'll be transferred to Fundu Lagoon Camp which is located on the West coast of Pemba Island, just Southeast of Tanzania itself. The camp is set in a tropical wilderness, ensuring privacy and a wonderful Robinson Crusoe authenticity. Styled to be fashionable, but functional, Fundu generally attracts honeymooners and other younger folk to its azure beaches. Enjoy meeting locals on cultural excursions, water sports and relaxing with a spa treatment or on the beach. There is exceptional diving on offer for both snorkelers and scuba divers alike. For a touch of culture, there are village walks and tours of the historic ruins. For the little more active there are kayak excursions into the mangroves and forest walks. Fishing trips and sunset cruises can add another dimension to a day's events. Finally for those looking to get away for a little peace and tranquility, the swimming pool recliners, beach loungers and the massage therapist is all you are going to need for a successful getaway.
